I find it a rather corrupt and disturbing event when the NCAA officials suspended A.J. for four games for selling his jersey for one thousand dollars. The very NCAA officials that decided to punish Mr. Green make their paycheck based on the talent and work of players such as Mr. Green. What kind of people get fat and rich off of the free labor of other people? Slave owners.
At the same time, if all NCAA athletes were given a stipend based on need, incidents such as this would be much less likely to occur. These student-athletes put as much time into their sports as the average professional does, and then have to go to class.
So why would you not allow these athletes to receive 10% or 5% of the overall revenue, for an industry which they generate 90% to 95% of the revenue? Easy...there wouldn't be enough money for the NCAA officials. And by enough, I mean what they deem to be enough money. The same reason slave owners and textile mill owners didn't want slavery to be abolished. "You cut out the free labor, our bottom line is going to shrink."
As long as people percieve what the NCAA officials are doing is legitimate, they won't be able to open their eyes and see that this predominate occurance in American society isn't much different than a sweat shop in Indonisia.
You may think I am grasping at straws here, and I am not saying that they are exactly the same. But, the similarities are there. At the very least, I hope you walk away from this realizing what pieces of shit the NCAA officials are that penalize any student-athlete, in any way, when that student-athlete lines the all mighty NCAA officials' pockets. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

I'm pretty sure the NCAA draws suspension lengths out of a hat. I don't agree with the rules on this kind of stuff, but they're in place none the less. But four games? A bit excessive.
Don't be foolish, Weazle. You're blaming the NCAA for 'exploiting' the college athlete. If you ask me the college athlete has it pretty sweet. Changing the rules of the game to allow for student athletes to be compensated (even more than they are; ie in addition to free education, free meals, free equipment, etc.) would do nothing but ruin college athletics.
The reason why college sports is more entertaining at just about every level and in every sport is because-- and you hear it so much it's now a cliche-- athletes in college are playing for the name on the front of their jersey not the back. If the NCAA allows colleges to compensate player (over the amount they are already being compensated), you open a pandora's box of player lock-outs, season lock-outs (watch out NFL, the players union is coming to get you), and corruption that will do nothing other than turn off the common college fan. On top of that, you will most likely shift your blame to the greedy school presidents who can afford to pay the best players (Blame The Yankees!).
That said, I think the NCAA is despicable. I just think your outrage is misplaced. Instead blame the NCAA for a complete lack of consistency. They are merely making an example out of an extraordinary athlete for who knows why.
Basically, what I'm saying is that college is a place best kept for amateur athletics. If anything, it's the NFL that is stopping these athletes from making money by not allowing them to go to the league right after (or before?) high school.
You can really only blame the NFL for not hiring young athletes as much as you can blame a construction company for not hiring 65 year old women though.

I'm gonna chalk this up to the booze talking.
1.) Never said anything remotely close to 'Fuck the Amatuers'. If you think college athletes are getting 'fucked' then why do you suspect they voluntarily agree to get 'fucked'? No body FORCES them to get 'fucked'?
2.) Would college football be better or worse if college athletes were paid? I think the answer is obvious.
3.) Your views of the "C.E.0's" and "Policy Makers" is misguided. Most CEOs and Policy makers were what you refer to a 'common men' at one point and worked to get to an enviable position, the same way an athlete starts as a amateur and works his ass off to become a pro.
