Too Soon?

So, the Braves decided to make some noise today. For better or for worse, Frank Wren released Tom Glavine and traded away a boat load of talent for former Pittsburgh Pirate, Nate Mclouth. Let's face it, changes needed to be made in the the outfield. Here is an absolutely atrocious stat; Garret Anderson hit a home run last night, that was the first dinger by an Atl outfielder since MAY 1st.

First, let's start with Glavine. Doesn't this release seem a bit premeditated? You've got the "God-send" Tommy Hanson waiting for, what every baseball nerd is calling, his long over due first MLB start. If the Braves planned on giving guys like Kris Medlen and JoJo Reyes a chance in front of Hanson, then why waste eveyones' time with Glavin? It just doesn't make any sense. He has spent months "rehabbing" against 18 year olds. And the Braves determined that he may not be the same guy. HE'S 43 YEARS OLD, and was never an overpowering pitcher to begin with. You could've given me $50, and I could come to the same conclusion. For $25 more I'll let ya in on a secret -- pitching isn't the problem.

The trade. Is Nate McLouth the answer? Probably not. He might be a step in the right direction, if they can sign him. Put it this way, he's a step up from the trash that's in the outfield now. But boy, they unloaded some good youngins to get him. Charlie Morton was easily the second best, if not the best, minor league pitcher the Braves owned. He's gone. Some guy named Gorkys, who could hit the shit out of the ball, gone. What a fun name. Schurholtz would have appreciated a name like that. Some other pitcher was dealt too. Ric may have said this at one time, "You gotta spend money to make money." I really hope it works. I know you do too. See you Friday.

I loved both moves. Glavine was nothing special and defiantly not a guy we needed to throw more money at which we would have had to do if he was called up. Damn good Brave but I'm not sad to see him go. I feel like Nate was worth the players. Great speed, glove, and can hit anywhere. He's also signed through 2011. I am not a fan of what the Braves have done with the likes of Tex because half of the Rangers starting lineup seems to have come from the Braves. However, I lIke this trade and if just one guy outside of Chipper and McCann could get going the Braves will be alright.

Agreed on the Glavine thing. I was just doing my Brother Whitehead impression and playing devils advocate. Too old and can't hit the corners.

McLouth will help out, no doubt. You can't score runS if no one is getting on base. As seen today, Chipper can only do sooo much.

I'll say this, 5 years from now Charlie Morton will be missed. As far as the Texeira stuff goes, the win now approach has never seemed to pan out for the Braves, and we're left with nothing to show for him.
